Delightful and festive Chocolate Easter Nests made with crunchy pretzel sticks coated in rich dark chocolate and topped with colorful candy-coated chocolate eggs. Perfect for a quick and easy holiday treat that combines sweet and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup salted pretzel sticks
  • 100 grams dark chocolate bar
  • 1/2 tablespoon neutral oil (such as coconut oil)
  • 9 candy-coated chocolate pieces (Easter milk chocolate eggs)
  • 1 1/2 cups water (for double boiler)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pretzels: Divide the salted pretzel sticks into approximately one-inch pieces and set them aside for later use.
  2. Chop Chocolate: Chop the dark chocolate bar into bite-sized pieces and place them into a heatproof bowl suitable for melting.
  3. Create Double Boiler: Bring 1 1/2 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan, then place the heatproof bowl with chocolate over it, lowering the heat to around 140°F (60°C) to gently melt the chocolate without burning.
  4. Melt Chocolate and Add Oil: Add the 1/2 tablespoon of neutral oil to the bowl and stir constantly until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, approximately 2 minutes over low heat.
  5. Mix in Pretzels: Add the pretzel pieces into the melted chocolate, stirring well to ensure all pretzels are thoroughly coated with chocolate. Then turn off the heat.
  6. Form Nests: Spoon the chocolate-covered pretzels into silicone muffin molds, filling each about 3/4 full. Create a shallow hollow center in each nest for the candy eggs.
  7. Add Candy Eggs: Place three candy-coated chocolate eggs on top of each chocolate pretzel nest, pressing lightly to secure.
  8. Chill to Set: Place the silicone molds in an airtight container and refrigerate for 15 minutes or until the chocolate has completely set.

Notes

  • Use a neutral oil like coconut oil to help achieve a smooth, glossy chocolate coating and prevent it from seizing.
  • The shallow hollow center allows room for candy eggs, mimicking real nests.
  • Silicone molds are easy to use and help in removing the nests without breaking.
  • For a sweeter nest, you may substitute dark chocolate with milk chocolate or a mix of both.
  • Store the finished nests in an airtight container in the refrigerator to keep them fresh and crunchy.
