Ingredients

Slider Base

  • 12 ounces Sweet Hawaiian rolls (1 pack of 12 rolls)

Tomato Sauce Mixture

  • ½ cup tomato paste (1 small can)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (divided)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (divided)

Toppings

  • 12-24 slices pepperoni
  • 1½ cups mozzarella cheese (shredded)

Butter Garlic Topping

  • 1 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic (minced)

Optional Garnishes

  • Parmesan cheese
  • Parsley

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rolls: Slice the sweet Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally to create sandwich-style tops and bottoms. Lightly grease a baking dish with cooking spray and arrange the bottom halves evenly in the dish. Set the top halves aside.
  2. Spread Tomato Paste: Evenly spread the ½ cup of tomato paste over the bottom halves of the rolls as the pizza sauce base.
  3. Season the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the Italian seasoning, onion powder, and salt. Sprinkle half of this seasoning mixture evenly over the tomato paste layer.
  4. Add Pepperoni and Cheese: Layer the pepperoni slices evenly over the seasoned tomato paste, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese uniformly over the pepperoni.
  5. Assemble the Sliders: Place the top halves of the rolls gently over the cheese layer and press down lightly to secure each slider.
  6. Prepare Garlic Butter: Combine the melted butter and minced garlic, then brush this mixture over the tops of the assembled sliders.
  7. Apply Remaining Seasoning: Sprinkle the rest of the Italian seasoning and onion powder mixture over the garlic butter-coated tops for added flavor.
  8. Cooking Option 1 - Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes to allow the cheese to melt and the flavors to meld. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Optionally garnish with parmesan cheese and chopped parsley before serving.
  9. Cooking Option 2 - Air Fryer: Arrange the sliders in a single layer inside the air fryer basket. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C). Cook the sliders uncovered for 4-6 minutes until the tops turn a light golden brown. You may need to cook in batches if all sliders don’t fit at once. Garnish with parmesan cheese and parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Shrink or expand the recipe easily by adjusting the number of Hawaiian rolls used.
  • Customize toppings by adding veggies like sliced bell peppers, olives, or mushrooms.
  • For a spicier slider, use pepperoni with added chili flakes or sprinkle red pepper flakes on top.
  • Use freshly shredded mozzarella for best melting results.
  • If using the air fryer, avoid overcrowding for even cooking.
  • Leftover sliders keep well refrigerated and can be reheated in the oven or air fryer for best texture.
