This Honey Garlic Chicken recipe features tender, boneless chicken breasts coated in a flavorful honey garlic sauce. Pan-seared to perfection and simmered in a sweet and savory blend of honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and garlic, it makes for a quick and delicious weeknight dinner that's ready in just 25 minutes.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (6 ounces each)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, salt, and pepper. Using a meat mallet, gently pound each chicken breast to an even thickness of about 1/2 inch. To do this, place the chicken between two sheets of parchment or plastic wrap and gently flatten starting from the middle outward.
  2. Dredge the chicken: Dip each chicken breast into the flour mixture, coating both sides evenly. Lightly shake off any excess flour. For better adherence, gently pat the flour onto the chicken with your fingers.
  3. Sear the chicken: Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the floured chicken breasts and brown on both sides until nicely golden. Use tongs to peek under the chicken to ensure a good sear before flipping.
  4. Make the sauce: While the chicken is browning, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and minced garlic in a small bowl until well combined.
  5. Add the sauce and simmer: Drizzle the prepared sauce evenly over the browned chicken in the skillet. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink. Keep the heat low so the sauce simmers gently without boiling. If using a meat thermometer, ensure the chicken’s internal temperature reaches 165°F before removing from heat.

Notes

  • Pounding the chicken to an even thickness ensures consistent cooking and tender texture.
  • Be gentle while patting flour onto chicken to help the coating stick better.
  • Browning the chicken well adds depth of flavor before simmering in sauce.
  • Simmer on low heat to avoid boiling the sauce, which can alter the taste.
  • Using a meat thermometer is recommended for perfectly cooked chicken.
