This Italian Sub Dressing is a vibrant and flavorful sauce perfect for elevating your submarine sandwiches or salads. Combining olive oil, red wine vinegar, honey, mayonnaise, and Dijon mustard with aromatic dried oregano and a touch of salt and pepper, it adds a deliciously tangy and slightly sweet finish. Ready in just 5 minutes, this easy-to-make dressing can be mixed effortlessly with simple kitchen tools.

Ingredients

Italian Sub Dressing

  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey (warmed if thick or crystallized)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (or an additional 2 tablespoons of olive oil)
  • 4 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add all of the ingredients – olive oil, red wine vinegar, honey, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, dried oregano, salt, and pepper – into a glass jar, small bowl, or mini blender.
  2. Mix Thoroughly: Use a milk frother, whisk, or blender to combine the ingredients until smooth. If using a jar, secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously to emulsify the dressing.
  3. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the dressing and adjust salt, pepper, or other ingredients to your preference to achieve the perfect balance of tangy and sweet flavors.
  4. Serve or Chill: Use the dressing immediately to add zest to your subs or salads, or chill it in the refrigerator for a cooler, more melded flavor before serving.

Notes

  • Warming the honey slightly helps if it's thick or crystallized, making it easier to blend.
  • You can substitute mayonnaise with additional olive oil for a lighter version.
  • This dressing stores well in the refrigerator for up to one week; shake or whisk before each use.
  • Try adding fresh herbs like basil or parsley for a fresh twist.
  • Great as a marinade for grilled vegetables or chicken in addition to sandwich dressing.
