Louisiana Voodoo Fries (Wingstop Copycat) are a deliciously indulgent appetizer featuring crispy baked French fries smothered in a rich, spicy Cajun ranch cheese sauce made with white cheddar. Perfect for game nights, parties, or cozy evenings, this dish offers bold flavors with a creamy texture in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Fries

  • 26 ounces frozen French fries

Cheese Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 2 teaspoons ranch seasoning powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne powder, divided
  • 8 ounces white cheddar cheese, shredded

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Cook Fries: Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F. Arrange the frozen French fries in a single layer on a baking sheet or inside the air fryer basket. Bake or air fry according to package instructions until the fries are golden brown and crispy.
  2. Make Roux: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the all-purpose flour until it forms a smooth paste. Cook this mixture for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly to avoid browning.
  3. Prepare Cheese Sauce: Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to combine. Add salt, ground white pepper, ranch seasoning powder, and half of the cayenne powder. Lower the heat to medium-low and continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens, around 5 minutes.
  4. Add Cheese: Once the sauce has thickened, stir in the shredded white cheddar cheese until fully melted and creamy. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding the remaining cayenne powder for extra heat if desired.
  5. Assemble and Serve: Pour the warm cheese sauce evenly over the cooked fries. Serve the Louisiana Voodoo Fries immediately while hot and gooey for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can use either an oven or an air fryer to cook the fries, based on your preference.
  • Adjust cayenne powder according to your spice tolerance.
  • For best results, use freshly shredded white cheddar cheese.
  • Serve immediately as the cheese sauce thickens and firms up upon cooling.
  • These fries are great as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.
