A delightful Strawberry Ice Cream Sundae featuring a homemade strawberry syrup simmered to perfection, layered with creamy vanilla ice cream, topped with fresh strawberries, dark chocolate shavings, and fluffy whipped cream. This quick and easy dessert is perfect for a single serving and bursts with fresh fruity flavors.

Ingredients

Strawberry Syrup

  • 2 cups strawberries, cleaned, hulled and chopped
  • ½ cup granulated sugar

Sundae Assembly

  • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 3 strawberries, chopped
  • ½ tablespoon dark chocolate, shaved
  • Whipped cream, to serve

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberry Syrup: Combine the chopped strawberries and granulated sugar in a medium saucepan. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally to help release the strawberry juices.
  2. Simmer the Mixture: Once the mixture reaches a boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 15 minutes to thicken and develop the syrup’s flavor.
  3. Strain the Syrup: Pour the cooked mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove the solid strawberry pieces, leaving a smooth strawberry syrup. Set the syrup aside to cool to room temperature.
  4. Assemble the Sundae: Pour 1 tablespoon of the cooled strawberry syrup into the bottom of a dessert bowl. Add 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
  5. Layer the Sundae: Drizzle 2 more tablespoons of strawberry syrup over the ice cream. Add 2 more scoops of vanilla ice cream on top.
  6. Finish and Serve: Garnish the sundae with whipped cream, the chopped strawberries, shaved dark chocolate, and a drizzle of the remaining strawberry syrup. Serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh ripe strawberries to maximize natural sweetness.
  • You can substitute dark chocolate with milk or white chocolate according to preference.
  • The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days in an airtight container.
  • Adjust sugar quantity if using naturally sweeter berries.
  • This recipe is designed for a single serving but can be scaled up easily.
