This Texas Toast with Cheese recipe features thick slices of buttery bread topped with a savory garlic butter blend, shredded mozzarella, and melty provolone cheese. Ready in just 11 minutes using an air fryer or oven, it delivers a deliciously crispy, cheesy garlic bread perfect as a side or snack for any meal.

Ingredients

Bread and Butter Mixture

  • 6 slices Texas toast (or other thick-sliced bread)
  • 4 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

Cheese Topping

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

Garnish

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prep the Bread: Arrange the bread slices in an air fryer basket or on a baking sheet in a flat, single layer. Optionally, you can lightly toast the bread first if you prefer a crunchier crust.
  2. Make the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, melt the butter and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, and garlic powder until well combined.
  3. Butter the Toast: Evenly spread the savory butter mixture over the top of each slice of bread, ensuring you cover all the way to the edges for maximum flavor.
  4. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over each buttered bread slice, then top each with one full slice of provolone cheese.
  5. Bake / Air Fry: Place the prepared bread in an air fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes, or bake in a convection oven at 375°F for 6 to 7 minutes. Cook until the cheeses are completely melted and slightly bubbly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Carefully remove the toast from the oven or air fryer, garnish with dried parsley if desired, and serve immediately while hot for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For a crunchier texture, lightly toast the bread before applying the butter mixture.
  • You can substitute the provolone cheese with mozzarella slices or other cheese of choice.
  • Adjust garlic powder amount to your preference for more or less garlic flavor.
  • This recipe works well in either an air fryer or a convection oven, depending on what’s available.
  • Serve as a delicious side for pasta, soups, or salads, or enjoy as a cheesy snack on its own.
