A refreshing and zesty Tuna Salad that combines albacore tuna with crunchy celery, onions, dill relish, lemon juice, and mustard. This recipe can be prepared with mayo or a healthier Greek yogurt substitute, making it versatile and perfect for sandwiches, wraps, or serving with crackers. The blend of fresh herbs and spices ensures every bite is flavorful and balanced.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (5-oz.) cans albacore tuna, drained well
  • 1 stalk celery, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons white onions, minced (can substitute yellow onion)
  • 1/3 cup mayo (can substitute Greek yogurt)
  • 1 tablespoon dill or sweet relish (dill recommended)
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon dry dill weed
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked pepper
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)

For Serving

  • Butter lettuce, bread, flour tortillas, or crackers

Instructions

  1. Drain Tuna: Use the lid of the tuna can or a tuna can strainer to thoroughly drain all the liquid from the tuna. This step prevents the salad from becoming watery and ensures a better texture.
  2. Break Apart Tuna: Shred or break the tuna apart thoroughly in a medium bowl to create lots of surface area. This helps the other ingredients blend well and flavors absorb evenly.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Add finely diced celery, minced onions, mayo or Greek yogurt, dill or sweet relish, lemon juice, freshly chopped parsley, yellow mustard, salt, garlic powder, dry dill weed, freshly cracked pepper, and optional cayenne to the tuna. Mix everything together until well combined and evenly distributed.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the tuna salad for at least 30 minutes if possible to allow the flavors to meld together. If short on time, it can be served immediately.
  5. Serve: Serve the tuna salad chilled in butter lettuce wraps, on bread or flour tortillas, or with crackers as a snack or meal.
